Hips to Toes (… and everything in-between!)
The shapes, techniques and principles we use in a yoga practice make an excellent support for running performance and recovery. This workshop is a chance to share some of the movements I’ve found useful over the years as a somatically-trained yoga teacher and enthusiastic casual runner.
Whether you’re training for a distance race or a 5k, this 2 hour workshop offers techniques from the yoga practice to make your training more easeful and enjoyable, improving your recovery so you can get back on the pavement again as soon as possible.
More than just hamstring stretches, we’ll focus on the lower body - playfully finding both strength and space through the hips, legs, knees, ankles and, of course, our precious feet. We’ll explore creative strength building shapes and transitions to help find a spring in your step. The workshop will close with a series of long hold stretches and self massage tools that make an excellent cool down sequence you can come back to after your next long run.
The workshop is hosted at Victoria Park Pilates, a peaceful indoor studio in the park. If you’re thinking of combining the workshop with your Sunday run, I would recommend running before so you can get the benefit of the more restorative parts of the practice.
