Your FAQs: Tidal Beings Surf & Yoga Retreat
In October 2026, we’ll be heading back to the North Cornish coast for a lush long weekend of extended yoga practices, an empowering surf lesson, big wholesome plates of food and plenty of time staring out to the glorious coastline. Honestly, I can’t wait.
Ahead of the trip, you’ve had some questions about what to expect over the weekend. Here’s everything you need to know …
Can I come on my own?
100%! The group is always a mix of solo travellers, couples and pals. It means there’s always a friendly face to chat to but plenty of space for downtime too. You already know you have something in common with the rest of the group … a calling to the yoga practice and a love for travel and adventure. From previous retreats, plenty of warm chats and friendships have formed over the weekend.
There’s just one single room remaining for £450, or one double room for £690 if you want to treat yourself to a little more space.
What will the yoga be like?
I’ll be sharing two yoga practices a day which will include a mix of meditation, breathwork, slow grounding practices, somatic exploration and restorative shapes. I teach intuitively, meaning our practices will be shaped by the needs of the group. There will be plenty of moments of rest and you are always welcome to meet the ground even more if you need.
If you’re completely new to yoga, my style is welcoming and open ended. There are plenty of options for challenges for those who want to take them, but everything we do is completely optional. It’s a choose your own adventure style of practice and from experience, you’ll leave feeling well rested rather than burnt out. These practices are designed to support you, not deplete you.
Whether we’re moving or in stillness, these practices bring us towards presence and a wholeness that already rests within you. There’s nothing you need to change about yourself here. Think: the complete opposite of a boot camp.
What will the surf lessons be like?
We’ll head out for a 2 hour surf session in Watergate Bay. It’s a short hop from our accommodation, a renowned surf spot and just the most beautiful setting. We’ll split into two groups - one for complete beginners and one for those who have some experience surfing, with one coach guiding each group. With small group coaching you’ll get bespoke tips and hands on guidance. You might make your first pop-up, or learn to start surfing green waves, depending on the conditions.
We’ll all be using foam boards and wetsuits will be provided. You are also welcome to bring your own board if you have one.
What if there’s no surf?
Although North Cornwall is one of the most consistent surf spots in the country, there is always a chance that the conditions won’t go our way. If we’re unable to surf due to flat conditions or storms, we’ll arrange an alternative activity. Previously, we’ve headed out on a paddleboard adventure along the coast to a secret beach.
We also have flexibility in our schedule to check the surf reports in the days before the retreat and choose the best times to surf depending on the tides and wind conditions.
I don’t want to surf, can I still come?
I get it, throwing yourself around in the ocean isn’t for everyone. Every year there are always a couple of guests who choose not to surf and instead head out on a walk along the coast or just enjoy some extra time in our stunning home. You’ll still have a wonderful weekend and definitely won't be bored.
How do I get to Mawgan Porth?
The closest railway station is Newquay, easily reached from London at just over 5 hours journey time with a change at Par. Trains are currently around £75 each way, so do factor travel costs into your budget. If you’re looking to save money, there is also a direct National Express bus for around £20 each way.
If you’re driving, there’s parking available at the house. It’s a long journey but it is absolutely worth it to visit an incredibly beautiful stretch of the coastline that feels like being abroad, without the flight.
What’s the house like?
We’ll be staying in a 5 bedroom home with Atlantic views. The large living room becomes our spacious yoga studio for long practices in the morning and evening. There’s a beautiful garden space to lounge outside and a balcony to watch the sunset in the evenings. There is currently one upstairs double room available which features an ensuite bathroom, one downstairs single room with a shared bathroom and one twin room with shared bathroom.
It’s a 5 minute stroll to the beach and village centre which features a handy shop, cafe and lovely pub. We’re staying on the South West Coast Path which means an easy stroll out across the coastline in either direction.
Tell me about the menu!
Our food offering comes from my wonderful friend Lisa who is an absolute whizz in the kitchen.
We’ll start the day with a breakfast buffet of homemade granola, yoghurt and fruit. We’ll then enjoy a hearty vegetarian brunch after our morning practice - in the past we’ve enjoyed shakshuka eggs, smashed avocado, refried bean tacos and fresh salsas. In the evening we’ll tuck into a home cooked healthy feast of curries, traybakes or a chillis, with plenty of side salads to put on your plate too. One year, Lisa made an indulgent tear-and-share garlic bread from scratch that I am still dreaming about.
Everything is made in house and all dietary requirements can be easily catered for.
On the final night we’ll dine at the Merrymoor Inn in Mawgan Porth. They serve a full Sunday carvery plus a tasty menu of seafood dishes, healthy salads and puds. I think we’ve tried pretty much everything on the menu now and it’s all been excellent.
Can I extend my stay?
Actually, yes you can! If you would like to make a longer trip of it you are welcome to stay on B&B style for up to 2 extra nights. For £85 per person per night, you’ll get an extra night's sleep in our beautiful accommodation, a morning breakfast buffet selection and 1 hour morning yoga practice before having the day to enjoy being in Cornwall. You might like to visit nearby Padstow for fish and chips, spend the day at the Eden Project or if you would like to get in the water again, additional surf lessons can be arranged.
